Meet Ole Petter Wullum, designer of KAOS Klapp high chair. Learn how KAOS Klapp came to exist, and why it’s the new icon of children’s high chair.
The initial idea for KAOS Klapp foldable high chair was established in 2014 when sisters-in-law, Mette Hansen and Gineline Kalleberg, had become parents. At that time, they lived in rather small apartments and couldn’t fit traditional high chairs around their dining tables.
They were looking for a stylish, foldable high chair, which was non existing. Being designers, they decided to establish their own brand, and to disrupt the industry with innovative baby gear. Inspired by their lives as new moms, they named the brand KAOS.
Ole Petter Wullum was born in Trondheim, Norway 1965. After completing design studies at the Norwegian Academy of Arts and Crafts, SHKS Oslo, he founded his own design studio in 1995. Ole Petter also participated in the development of the five-year master’s course for industrial designers at Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He now operates as Associate professor and subject responsible for form, formgiving and form teaching to the design students at NTNU, while working with independent projects of design in the areas of architecture, furniture and objects.
Ole Petter is also father of five, so he truly understands what children all ages need from a high chair – not to mention what we need as parents; conveniency.
In 2014, The KAOS founders and Ole Petter Wullum embarked on the mission to set a whole new standard for high chairs.
Children never sit still by the table. In fact, the human body was developed to move, and Klapp is designed for movement. It allows children of all ages to move freely, yet always keep a stabile foot rest throughout the meal. The design of KAOS Klapp is based on the analogy of a staircase: where users of different sizes can sit down and quickly find a natural and good sitting position.
Our bodies – and KAOS Klapp – is created for a dynamic sitting position where you automatically change position all the time to keep us in natural movement! In addition, KAOS Klapp is a “ladder” so that the child can climb up and down from the chair themselves, fostering a great feeling of mastery from early on.” – Ole Petter Wullum, designer of Klapp
