Is the KAOS Klapp high chair safe?

YES. Here’s why.

We’ve received some questions after a Danish article about high chairs was published – and we totally get it! So here’s a little clarification:

In 2023, the Danish Safety Technology Authority (SIK) ran a large-scale test of high chairs on the Danish market. In one of the tests, a single (1 unit) KAOS Klapp chair didn’t pass one of the many points in the safety standard for high chairs, EN 14988. The specific test involved applying 200 Newton/app. 20 kg of force, to the back legs (forcing the back legs to fold from the unfolded position).

This came as a complete surprise to us. None of our own tests – not ours, not our manufacturer’s, nor the ones done by the Danish Technological Institute (which has certified our products since 2018) – have shown any weaknesses. In fact, the latest reports from Teknologisk Institute show that the Klapp high chair withstands over 18% more force than the requirement.

So, what happened?
The test that failed was done manually (not by a calibrated machine), which can lead to variations. It might simply have been a fluke. The issue couldn't be recreated, and the case was quickly closed by the Danish authorities.

Still, what are we doing about it?
Just to be extra sure, we’ve added glue to the specific joint that got loose when applying 200 Newton force on the back leg. Now, the Klapp chair can withstand over 500 Newtons of force – that’s more than double the requirement.

Bottom line: The KAOS Klapp chair is safe – and now even stronger than before.
